“Everything is beautiful in winter. However, the UAE’s winter is the most beautiful in the world.”- HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Truly! Winter in the UAE is the finest season to explore the true spirit of the country. The nature is at its best with moderate temperature and the flora and fauna is in full bloom. These four precious months is the most-awaited time of the year to venture out and discover the beauty of this wonderful and most welcoming country.
“Two heads are better than one”
An English proverb you might have heard of before. When two minds think and work together much greater results are gained.
Why is this? Because different minds have different ideas, but different out of the box ideas can be used to create an astounding outcome.
I was so excited! It was Camel back to Cadillac 2021. This is an interschool competition held by our school every year on the National Day of UAE. The topic for this year’s event is ‘Tell a Tale with a Picture’. One day I was sitting in class then my Arabic teacher had called me and said that I was short listed for the competition.
It was 7 a.m. on a chilly winter morning. As we waited for the school bus, I blew out a cloud of hot breath into the frigid air. Seeing this, my brother held an imaginary pipe in his palm and exhaled an even greater cloud of air. We giggled and repeated it again. This is one of the first memories that comes to mind when I recall my early winter days in the UAE.

Reading is a conversation. All books talk, but a good book listens as well
~ Mark Haddon
Reading. What a multi-meaningful word it is. It isn’t just scrutinizing at a page and keeping our mind blank, it is enjoying the bliss of each and every word. It is a pool welcoming anyone who wishes to dive inside. Jumping into the pool of words has too many benefits to count, I must tell you that. But it will only be noticed if we volunteer ourselves to dive. Just a small tug it is and we will be mesmerised in the sensation of drowning into words. And as a student, reading is equally important for studying.
The very meaning of the world expo is a large international exhibition, and UAE has again made an unbeatable feat with the expo 2020 Dubai. With 192 country pavilions, a host of signature and partnership pavilions, it certainly does leave no space for doubt for the ‘international’ part.
Covid-19 took a big part of our lives. It changed the whole world, and the way we lived. As we could not step out of the house due to the lockdown and pandemic, People could not go shopping, attend meetings and most importantly go to schools to study. The UAE education system suffered a lot during the beginning of the pandemic; they had to put up new ways to communicate through our devices using virtual platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft teams and etc. I would like to share some of my experiences and victories.
Puberty is one of the most inevitable physical change in transition of a child to a teenager. Even though puberty is considered as a sign of a teenage, puberty in girls may occur around age of 10 and up and for boys, age of 11 and up. Both can have a delayed puberty as well. In this phase of development children experience physical, emotional, social, psychological changes.
The question is, are children emotionally ready for these changes?
It is important that children of ASPAM IIS – Schools in Sharjah should be made aware that puberty occurs naturally and this biological change happens in every human being and puts up various changes in the human body and mind. Creating awareness of these changes ahead will help to avoid emotional collapse and adjustment issues with the new bodily image.
During puberty, teenager shows intense emotions and strong feelings. These emotions may be overwhelming leading to breakdowns. Mood changes are also common in teenagers. Along with the hormonal changes, psychological changes also play a significant role in emotional breakdowns. The teenager works with their emotional brain rather than thinking brain. Because the thinking part of the brain is still developing, children find difficulty in regulating emotions, to think logically and to take rational decisions, and end up with irritation and frustration.
Here are some strategies to cope with emotional changes in puberty-
Parents and educators of CBSE schools in Sharjah, should make sure to provide puberty education when the child reaches middle school. It is also essential to teach them how it is related to physical, social, emotional, and psychological wellbeing. Provide with age-appropriate book so they can learn and explore more about their bodily changes. Encourage child to talk about their doubts and feeling related to puberty. Never hesitate to talk about sexual changes and feeling as it might feel awkward, always talk about it in a comfortable way. It is also important that the teenager learn and understand the social norms and age-related expectations to meet their personal, social, and academic goals. Parents and educators must make sure they have realistic expectation for the teenagers.
It is said that nothing will works if you are angry and hungry, give them time to calm down in difficult situations, never react as there will be always an opposite reaction. Respond to them, show empathy, and ensure you understand their feelings and emotions. Encourage them to have a healthy sleep routine and eating habits, advise exercise and yoga to regulate self and remain calm.
“Always keep in mind that we have all gone through this and you will also make it through.”

We are living with a notion that this land is meant for us. We walk freely, we breathe freely, we utilize all natural and man-made resources freely. The so called sophisticated stylish, sea-view, jungle –view, high rise apartments are man-made concrete jungle snatched by humans from nature and animals. Most of our homes belong to nature and wild animals.
Yes, hard to believe this, ‘This Is The Bitter Truth!!!’ We have forced our Mother Nature and wild animals to ‘Self Quarantine’ themselves in a smaller area. We were and still are in a belief that this is the only path to progress and develop.
So now, at present, we here stand to face The Bitter Truth again!!! We can no more walk freely the way we did; we can no more hold each other’s hand the way we did, we can no more hug each other the way we did. Someone’s ‘Hello’ cannot be responded with a ‘Smile’ as ‘Smiles’ are hidden under the mask. Our face emotions which would speak volumes without a word spoken, now need words.
We just cannot give away our home back but yes, still we can unfold this Bitter Truth.
We can unfold This Bitter Truth by standing fearlessly against the damage towards our mother nature.
Making concrete jungles won’t make us a developed nation. Saving our home mother earth will surely make us a developed nation.
