Eating junk food on a regular basis can lead to an increased risk of obesity and chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic and fatty liver disease, hormonal imbalances and high blood pressure. Although its consumption causes a spike in body energy level at the same time it also creates a sleeping disorder.

Junk foods are very oily and lack of dietary fibers thus their consumption requires more energy to perform the process from the body and may cause a lower oxygen level in the body which lead towards improper brain functioning. Junk foods are also high in bad cholesterol and cause heart and liver damage. As junk food lacks dietary fibers so they are hard to digest, consequently cause strain to the stomach and other digestive organs and result in constipation and other digestive disorders.

As junk food is a rich source of cholesterol so when we consume them we absorb much cholesterol from such type of foods that causes plaque formation in the arteries and creates problems for the heart to pump the normal amount of blood. That’s why we feel high-level fatigue; our liver gets affected too and puts more weight at the same time.

The chemicals present in the junk food react with the brain and affects a child’s ability to concentrate, pay attention, remember or even learn. It can also trigger behavioral problems of aggressiveness, defiance, hyperactivity, and impulsivity in a child. Eating too much junk food could result in a decrease in brain function as well. According to a recent study, it has been found that there are several types of food that are bad for the brain and the additives and preservatives used in junk food can have impairing effects on cognition. Even the high intake of salt and fatty food can reduce and impair cognitive performance. Deficiency of Omega 3 in food can be linked to a number of mental health disorders such as depression, ADHD etc.

Junk food is highly unhealthy and can transform fit, healthy human beings into obese, lazy youngsters. Parents have a pivotal role to play as they should not only be very conscious towards the eating habits of their kids but also train them about eating habits from childhood and make them aware about the differences between healthy and junk foods. Thus good health is the necessity of living a healthy life and that means that every one of us must maintain a healthy diet and healthy habits throughout life.
